Last month, The Florida Bar announced that 14 attorneys practicing in Florida have been disciplined by the Florida Supreme Court. This number includes seven attorneys in the Tampa Bay area.
Out of the seven Tampa attorneys reprimanded, one has been disbarred while another four have been suspended. The two remaining were publicly reprimanded.
In the majority of these cases, disciplinary action was taken due to the misappropriation of trust account funds. Other causes included violating prior probation orders, failure to submit to a breath test after a DUI charge and a noncompliance of certain legal procedures.
The attorney who was disbarred had failed to maintain efficient contact with clients. The attorney allegedly stopped communicating with a client, and she was left without appropriate counsel at her hearing. The attorney’s practice was also abandoned, and The Florida Bar could not garner a response.
