Every road could be considered dangerous, but the state of Florida certainly has a few that see more than their fair share of car, truck and motorcycle accidents. Often, these auto accidents also lead to serious injuries.
Here, we’ll take a look at some of Florida’s most dangerous roads:
Interstate 95
I-95 runs down the Atlantic coastline for the majority of the Eastern U.S., and it’s majorly congested along certain areas, seeing many accidents along the way. This is especially true for the stretch of 95 that goes through Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
Interstate 4
Considered the most dangerous interstate highway in the country, I-4 has the most fatalities per mile. This is likely due to Florida’s high rate of distracted drivers.
Interstate 10
Interstate 10 runs through eight different states including Florida. Much of I-10 lacks barriers between traffic directions, causing an increase in crossover accidents.
S. 98
This road in North Florida is dubiously nicknamed “Bloody 98” and for good reason. This road is said to have the highest number of pedestrian fatalities, and it’s also considered a design failure.
NE First Ave. and NE Sixth St. in Miami
This particular intersection is considered to be one of the worst in the country. Two one-way, multi-lane streets meet here, and car accidents here happen often and are usually severe. Unsignaled lane changes and a general disregard for traffic rules are often the causes.
A1A and Las Olas Blvd in Fort Lauderdale
Fort Lauderdale is a bustling city full of pedestrians, tourists and cyclists, which makes for a congested and stressful drive at best. The beach view from A1A, while beautiful, creates opportunities for distracted driving. For these reasons, accidents are abundant and drivers can’t be too careful.
